This is not a sponsered video.
I Was at Power RVz in Mesa, AZ and my good friend Stacy of Awnings R Us was there replacing an awning fabric. His company only repairs and installs RV awnings so they are very good and fast.
This is a standard manual Dometic RV Awning but he is installing a Carefree of Colorado fabric which changed the design of the fabric to have a pushed in piping like a sceen door fabric. I think I learned a few things too. This was nearly filmed in real time with most edits for wind noise.
I stumbled upon them so apologize for any poor audio as this was not planned.
Here is a link to the rivet gun that I love:
Thanks for watching but do not attempt this if you do not know the dangers.
can’t hear them
I have replaced many awnings and they are doing it totally wrong. Roll out the awning all the way and set it on top of a ladder, allowing it to have slack. Take WD-40 and spray it along the entire length of the awning on the roller bottom side and the roof bottom side. Take out the set screws at the ends of the awning fabric from the roof and roller at each end. Slide the awning off the roof and roller rail at the same time, and then slide the new one back on, reset the set screws and roll it up.
If you can’t slide the awning off the roller because the cap is blocking the track, drill out the cap and make an opening to the slide, so the awning can slide off the roller through the cap. I recommend you slide the awning to the front of the RV and both the roof and the roller at the same time.
Taking off the caps of the roller while the spring is fully wound can be a dangerous thing and you can get seriously hurt. If you don’t know what you’re doing. If the awning is manual, make sure the locks are engaged as you would to open the awning. If the awning is powered, do not touch the controls when the awning is all the way out while you are replacing the fabric .
Wrong wrong wrong do not do it this way. Read my instructions below.
lame video, no instructions at all just showing professionals doing what they do with no step by step anything…. USELESS video
It was such a pleasure to watch these guys work and credit to AZ Expert for making the video but all of your dumb comments were making myself and probably the workers wish you’d just kept your mouth closed and let them do their job.
